From Klinger to the USS Improvise: Paul Dahman Still Makes Me Laugh
Some theatre relationships last long after the final curtain.
Long before Paul Dahman became the founding director of the Dinner Theatre Rejects, he was one of my theatre students at Canfield Village Middle School. Later, I had the pleasure of directing him as Corporal Klinger in the high school production of MASH*.
He had me laughing then.
He’s been doing it ever since.
So perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that Paul and his wonderfully unpredictable band of Dinner Theatre Rejects are preparing to boldly go where no sensible improvisers have gone before—aboard the USS IMPROVISE!
On Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 PM,
the Dinner Theatre Rejects will take over the Historic Trinity Playhouse for Stage Left’s Fall FUNdraiser—an evening of unscripted, PG-13 comedy in which the performers may have a general idea where they’re headed, but absolutely no guarantee they’ll arrive there.
That’s improv. And that’s a large part of the fun.
A Little Comedy. A Little Wine. A Cookie. A LOT of Improvising.
Tickets are $20, and we’ve decided that admission to this particular voyage should come with provisions. Your ticket includes your first glass of wine—or Captain-on-Duty non-alcoholic beverage of choice—and your first Punchline Cookie. Additional beverages and cookies will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

Proceeds from the evening support Stage Left Players and the work that happens throughout the year at the Historic Trinity Playhouse—youth and adult productions, original theatre, music, storytelling and the many opportunities that bring people together through the arts.
Theatre Has a Funny Way of Keeping People Connected
Maybe that’s the part of this event that means the most to me. One of the great gifts of spending a lifetime making theatre is discovering that the people who once stood in front of you as young actors don't necessarily disappear when the show ends. They grow up. They find their own voices.
They create their own work. And, if you’re very lucky, years later you find yourselves making theatre together again.
I couldn't have known, watching a young Paul Dahman make me laugh as Klinger, that decades later I'd be welcoming him and a comedy troupe of his own to the Historic Trinity Playhouse.
But here we are. And he's still making me laugh.
