Your Neighbors. Real Stories. Sharing the Stage at SPARK!

From the Executive & Artistic Director of Stage Left Players

There's something wonderfully different about standing onstage without a costume, a character, or a script to hide behind. Just you, a microphone, and a story that belongs to you! This Sunday, November 1, I'll have the pleasure of sharing the stage with a wonderful group of friends and neighbors for SPARK Storytellers: BEFORE & AFTER — Stories of What Changed at the Historic Trinity Playhouse.

At Stage Left Players, we're accustomed to bringing stories to life through characters, costumes, music, and scenery. But SPARK invites us to share stories we've actually lived. This time, we're reflecting on the years surrounding the COVID pandemic—not to debate what should or shouldn't have happened, but to remember what happened to us. We all lived through that extraordinary time, yet each of us experienced it differently. There were challenges, surprises, unexpected connections, moments of sadness, and, believe it or not, plenty of humor!

One of my favorite things about SPARK is sharing the stage with people whose experiences are so different from my own. We may know one another as friends, neighbors, or familiar faces around town, but when someone begins telling a personal story, we discover something new about them. We laugh, we reflect, and sometimes we recognize a little of ourselves in someone else's experience. Even those of us telling stories get to enjoy being part of the audience!

My own story takes us back to March 2020, when the pandemic brought Stage Left Players to an abrupt halt, leaving Robin Hood and his Merry Men stranded in Sherwood Forest! 🏹 What became of that unfinished adventure? Well, you'll have to come Sunday to find out!

We created SPARK because we believe ordinary people carry extraordinary stories. And sometimes the simplest stories are the ones that stay with us the longest. I hope you'll join us for an afternoon of laughter, reflection, and connection. Come meet the people behind the stories—you may recognize a few faces!
